There are lots of great activities in the immediate area around Vintertun, with swimming in the lakes / river pools. Hikes to the potholes in Rullestadjuvet, deep water fishing in Åkrafjorden, walks / skiing in the Etnefjellene, and thrill sports such as bungee jumping and Via ferrata are a few minutes away.

 

The historical industrial town of Odda is closeby and is the main hub of the area and gateway to the greater Hardanger. From here you can experience many of the stunning waterfalls, the breathtaking Trolltunga rock formation, Folgafonna glacier from Buerbreen, ending the days tasting the local cider from the many cideries!

 

From the property itself there are many nice walks, including a more demanding hike to edge of the Folgafonna glacier with accommodation at the Sauabrehytta DNT cabin. There is also a popular hike for all levels up the picturesque Vinterdalen towards Heimstestølen and Vintertunstølen, which you can make into a longer hike (medium demanding) starting from Seljestad to Simlebu and down to Vintertun in wild and majestic alpine terrain.

 

In summer the whole area is an eldorado for hikers, berry pickers and for the more adventurous, summit hikes and ski-touring across the national park - Hardangervidda.

Just behind the house you will find wild bilberry bushes on the hillside, which are amazing to eat and bake with!
